Okay – so how does a tommy plant end up in my cordyline….no where near the greenhouse and I used new soil when I top dressed….oh, hang on, I used my compost from the compost bin!  That means (i think) the mix isn’t getting hot enough me thinks…? So, it doesn’t kill the seeds. But I think its kind of sweet – its growing in my small courtyard. I like it! Fighting against adversity…ie. me! (look at the weeds I pulled out the the right of the picture – thought I’d hidden them from view – doh!)

Cordyline

Thought I would give you a sneaky peek of Manor Stables Veg Plot – I’ve taken the pics for a tree surgeon friend who is going to look at taking back some of the overhanging branches – they are blocking the sun to the veg plot. I’m stood in the garden, looking towards the veg plot. The wall to the right is the old stable wall, and just to the right of the pic is the doorway through to next doors garden.

I love my garden, and yes, the grass does need cutting, but now as I look out the window, the sky is dark, its raining and I’m in flip flops about to go to Th’Asda! Damn the grass for growing, and welcome to summer in the UK!

I have tiny tomato seedlings appearing all over the garden so obviously my compost isn’t getting hot enough either. I don’t know whether they will be any good as I rather think the tomatoes my husband grew last year were hybrids. Always a question mark as to what one will get! Val

Brilliant, I really hope it fruits! I suggest spreading your compost a little further afield and turning the whole town into a giant tomato factory, you could pluck them at traffic lights, kids could eat them on the way to school…it would be perfect.

We have the same problem with rogue tomatoes here as well as a range of other mystery plants. I like to let them grow on and see what we end up with!

Last year I had a sunflower plant pop up in a wall basket. I suspect that a bird must have dropped a seed whilst flying over.
You have a lovely garden. I’m sure once the trees have been cut back a little you will get more sunshine to your veg patch.

Hello Valeri – thanks for stopping by – I too am a bit worried, as some of the toms I’m growing this year are Spanish ones bought as tomato’s from a farmers market and then the seeds dried and sowed….I would agree its a bit of a lottery this year with the toms! Are they hybrids or not? Will soon find out!

Hey Amy – U been on something…? Although I too think it would be bloomin’ MARVELLOUS – pictured myself at a set of light with a few cherry toms…good idea – maybe a guerilla gardening plan!

Hello Liz – Rogue plants – do they turn nasty…? :o ) Its always a good plan to leave things – a few surprises here and there!

Hey Jo! I love sunflowers and having one just pop up would be nice – all mine died last year, but I have a row of about 10 next to a brick wall, they love it…its so hot! Thanks for the garden comment – I love it, and its a good job my dad potters in it most days, or I would be stuffed!

    Thanks all
