So…yesterday. I’m debating about growing tatties. My dads trial of growing them in bags has proved unsuccesful, so I said I would debate growing them next year. They’d not flowered, they looked a bit crappy and poorly, but no sign of blight.
So I went home and thought, right, lets dig up two plants and see how they’ve got on……and take a look at these beauties!!!!!!!!!
Only dug up two plants – the first had about 3, and the second plant had about 12…bloomin….spuds!!!!! Happiest of days!!! All decent sizes aswell. (can you tell I’m just a tad excited about this??)
I also looked at the tomato’s yesterday too, and I have the freakiest tomato lengthed plants that I’ve had for some time – well, the 3 years I’ve been doing it! Bare in mind that they are seeds saved by dad on a bit of kitchen roll from Spain…

..and it measured in at…

Oh yes….60 of your finest centimetres!!!
On another plant – there is this truss…

…3 of them – all on one truss! My dad was obviously messing with the old GM for these babies!!!
I’ve grown Pentland Javelin in containers the past two years. I had really good success. I sowed three seed potatoes in each container and harvested over 50 spuds from each container. Some were a little small, but on the whole they were a decent size. My plants didn’t flower either, some potatoes don’t.
This year I thought I’d try something different so have gone for different varieties, but it will be interesting to see the difference in taste and yield, and also see what the difference is in growing on the allotment rather than in containers.
Perhaps planting five seed potatoes in each bag was too many and didn’t allow enough room for them all to grow?
My tomatoes are also producing incredibly long trusses – longer than I’ve ever seen before – but I can’t top 60cm!! You win!
Hey Jo – I’m of the “learn for next year” camp – so next year, we’ll just grow in the gound. If it doesn’t work once, I normally can’t be bothered to do it again. I’m so fickle.
Hey Rachael – not that its a competition – but GET IN!!!!!!! Winner – whoooooooooooooo-ho!!! sorry. Yes, I have long and multiple trusses – and they taste gorgeous – I’ve had some for tea last night….
