Growing Veg and other garbled messages & gardening wisdom

Manor Stables Veg plot @ 6:04 pm

Hi, I’m Cat and I live in Castleford, West Yorkshire. I was lucky enough to move house in Xmas 2005 to a wonderful converted stable with its own veg plot and third of an acre of land.

PlotIt needs work to it, as does the rest of the garden, but with a full time job, 3 beagles and a th’ubby that is away a lot its a bit of a stretch…but I try! The veg patch was 4 beds originally, with claggy soil. We have added 2 massive beds to the 4, a soft fruit bed for raspberrys, a greenhouse that is lovely (after the plastic one impaled itself onto next doors tree in ’summer’ 2008), a compost bin – that works – and 3 strawberry beds.

Th’ubby does not garden AT ALL, but is more than willing to sit on the lawn mower and help that way…oh, and eat the fruit and veg! My ever helpful dad potters round the garden too, helping where he can (hes not too well, but he enjoys the fresh air!), and being a 7 day weekend-er, is quite useful!

Aims for Manor Stables Veg Plot, and me:

1. Grow fresh fruit and veg

2. Grow my own cut flowers

3. Recycle as much as possible @ home

4. compost as much household and garden waste as poss

(if not, will tip garden waste over the fence to the scrub land…oops! Will still compost…eventually)

5. For 2009 – make the plot really work, and ensure that I use as much of the ground as possible.

6. …and not grow too much and leave it to die…!

Join me in my tales of growing and losing veg, making the garden into a cottage garden, and hopefully meeting my aims for 2009.

Please feel free to leave any comments you like – as long as they’re clean, and not covered in mud – to give me a helping hand.

Think thats it!

Cat xx

I just thought that I’d let you know that I’ve passed along the Kreativ Blogger Award to you: http://springtimeinthecountry.blogspot.com/2009/03/speechless-but-not-wordless-thank-god.html.

I look forward to seeing who you pass it on to next!

  2. Hello Cat,
I am delighted to say that your aims for Manor Stables for 2009 are the same as mine. The only thing is I don’t have such a big size plot of land so it’s less work for me!
You’ve got a lovely blog so I shall visit soon again.
    Thank you.
